(Fox Township, IL) -- Police have charged an Illinois man with drunk driving in a crash that killed three people from Des Moines, including a 4-year-old girl.
It happened July 31 in Kendall County, Illinois. That's about 2 hours southwest of Chicago. 22-year-old Carson M. Rehkopf of Sugar Grove, Illinois faces six counts of Aggravated DUI involving Death (Class 2 Felony), two counts of Aggravated DUI Involving Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony), and multiple traffic offenses.
Illinois State Police say Rehkopf was driving a pickup truck southbound on IL-71 and entered the northbound lanes to pass multiple vehicles. Rehkopf’s truck struck a SUV head-on causing a four-vehicle crash. The victims were identified as 38-year-old Amy Lee Witter, 65-year-old James Witter, and a 4-year-old girl, all from Des Moines.
Rehkopf is being held in the Kendall County Jail pending his first court appearance.
