To put it simply, Black TikTok is having a collective kiki right now!

As Melania Trump’s documentary, Melania, rolled out this past weekend, Black TikTokers did what they do best: organized and reminded everyone where the real cultural power lives. The plan? Run Becoming all the way back to the top of Netflix.

Across TikTok, creators urged people to stream Michelle Obama’s documentary nonstop, rate it, and keep it playing in the background — all in an effort to make sure Becoming outranked Melania’s film during its premiere window.

The timing wasn't random. Melania Trump’s new documentary hit theaters this past weekend to mostly negative reactions, landing at just a 10% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. While GOP-aligned voices have encouraged supporters to show up at theaters, Black TikTok responded with a collective “nah” — and a streaming strategy instead.

“This is a cultural power move,” one creator said, pointing out that we don’t have to sit back while narratives get handed to us. Others echoed the same energy, calling Becoming a reminder of growth, resilience, and community — and very much the opposite of a polished political rollout.

From there, it snowballed. Streaming parties popped up. Comment sections filled with “say less.” People admitted to looping the documentary while napping, cleaning, or sleeping — just to help it climb the charts.

One TikToker summed it up perfectly: watch Becoming, mind your business, and sleep well knowing you contributed to a little chaos.

Michelle Obama may go high, but Black TikTok? Black TikTok chose funny — and Netflix is feeling it. (Becoming is currently in Netflix's top 10 movies.)
