The Philadelphia Eagles have “enthusiastically accepted” an invitation to the White House following their dominant Super Bowl win.
On Tuesday (March 11), White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the Eagles would be visiting the White House on April 28 after accepting an invite from President Donald Trump.
"April 28, I can confirm that the Philadelphia Eagles will be here at the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory," Leavitt said in a statement. "I know there was a lot of fake news about an invitation that wasn't sent or was sent. We want to correct the record. We sent an invitation they enthusiastically accepted and you will see them here on April 28."
News of the Eagles' upcoming White House visit comes after rumors swirled that the team declined the traditional victory invitation. Reports later surfaced that the White House hadn't yet extended the invite to the Eagles after they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in the championship game.
The Eagles didn't visit the White House in 2018 after winning Super Bowl LII. The White House reportedly rescinded its invite the night before the scheduled visit. The Trump administration claimed the team was planning to send just a handful of representatives and that the “vast majority of the Eagles team decided to abandon their fans.”
